February 2007

Another January passed and the nights are starting to lengthen by the end of February it should be light when i leave work.

So far we have been spared the snow that had affected England. Last year i was uable to get to work for a week as the side roads weren't cleared, priority is given to the main roads, bus and school routes.

The weather today is warm and sunny with blue skies and great gardening weather. So i've been outside pruning and getting everything ready for the spring. I've also decided to reduce the strawberry bed by half which will allow me an extra bed for vegetables

Valentines day has just past and OH gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The lilies have now come into flower and i'm quite taken with their colour and have decided to see if i can grow these. I did plant some in the autumn in a large container but as they were freebies i can't recall what type they were. I notice they are starting to poke through the compost so i'll be interested to see if they are the same or another variety.

The daffodils are really coming on now and again i have some tete a tete's that i planted in pots and these are starting to form yellow heads. I find these little daffy's more successful in pots than the larger variety.

I've now measured up for a greenhouse and decided that i can comfortably site an 8ft x 12 greenhouse which should be a good size for what i want to do. Will probably aim to get this insitu later in the Summer sometime.

Hi,

This is just my second year of growing my own, previously, always bought from Garden Centers.

I've been keeping a diary but have decided this year to have a blog.

Came on line to check out Garden blogs to see what they're like and came across yours. Really enjoyed it and will be returning.

Happy Gardening, Margaret.

I would be glad to give you some lily growing pointers. I mostly have day lilies but I have some others similar to the ones in that picture.
